The Excel4Pro team, represented by TÜBİTAK MAM, proudly participated in the 2nd International Congress on Biotech Solutions for Sustainability between 21 to 24 October 2025, held at Gebze Technical University (GTU) Congress Centre in Gebze, Türkiye. This major gathering brought together academic researchers, industry partners and startups under the umbrella of biotechnology for sustainability, with sessions spanning plant, marine, medical, industrial and environmental biotech.
Key Event Highlights
At the congress, Dr. Özlem Aslan presented the scientific study entitled “Benchmarking of Protein-Rich Crops Grown in Türkiye: Functional, Technological and Economic Evaluation of Innovative Extraction Approaches.” This work stems from Excel4Pro’s ongoing efforts to advance sustainable plant-based protein solutions, specifically from WP2 – Plant Proteins Demonstrators work package. The study represents a broader commitment to exploring innovative ways to enhance nutritional, technological, and economic potential of locally grown crops. By systematically evaluating different protein-rich crops and modern extraction techniques, the project aims to generate practical insights that can guide the development of sustainable food products.
This work highlights Excel4Pro’s focus on combining scientific research with real world applications to support sustainable agriculture, promote efficient use of local resources, and strengthen the emerging plant-protein sector in Türkiye.
The success of the study was built on a strong cross-functional team including Aytunga Arık Kibar, Halil Daşgın, Emel Önder Fırat, İlknur Demirtaş, Barış Çarıkçı, Hayrettin Özer, Şeyma Türkseven, and Elif Yener.
Why this matters
By presenting at the congress, Excel4Pro’s team not only showcased their findings but also engaged with international researchers and industry delegates in the biotechnology sustainability space. The congress provided networking, knowledge-exchange and potential collaboration opportunities in the plant-protein domain and beyond.
