Let’s explore Excel4Pro…

Overview

What is Excel4Pro?

Excel4Pro, a Horizon Europe-funded project, aims to transform the agri-food sector by stimulating scientific excellence and strengthening the capacity regional hubs in Türkiye, Greece and Ukraine. Through strategically leveraging the location and scale of protein-rich crops production, Excel4Pro aims to create a single, interconnected, cross-border Excellence Hub that boosts plant-based protein ecosystems, drives innovation and provides sustainable food products. By also supporting cross-border collaboration, research, knowledge exchange, and innovative R&I strategies, Excel4Pro aims to bridge knowledge gaps, attract investments, and upskill researchers and entrepreneurs.

Why Plant-based Proteins?

50% growth of global plant-based protein market the next 5 years

The global plant-based protein market is expected to grow by 50% over the next five years.

Limited Innovation & Investments

Progress is hindered by limited innovation diffusion and disparities in investment and government support for plant protein research.

Challenges in transitioning to sustainable food systems

The transition to sustainable food systems presents several challenges, such as meeting the growing demand for protein, addressing both malnutrition & over-consumption, and reducing the environmental impact of animal-based foods. Additionally, there is a need to improve the health benefits of plant-based alternatives.

Advancing Research in Plant Protein Processing for Sustainable Diets

Further research is essential to optimize plant protein processing, enhance nutritional value, and promote healthier, more sustainable diets.
